So Sweet
Nuthouse have their very own groove. Sometimes it escalates to such heights that, as someone in the audience once put it, "people just stand there and die". What's great about Nuthouse is that the members have such different backgrounds and musical references, which makes them sound very different from other bands. Hardrock, pop, funk jazz and soul. Pour it all in and stir. Nuthouse started as a live band during the early 1990s when acid jazz was becoming more and more popular. But they went beyond acid jazz. They created their own sound and original songs. The first album, Now is Now, was released in 1994 and featured Anders Johansson, vocals and guitar, Hendrik Bergstén, bass, Mikko Spångberg, drums, Arne Tengstrand, piano, Mats Mårell, saxophone and Johan Setterlind, trumpet. The album includes both vocal and instrumental tracks. A second album, Basic Design, was released in 1998 and featured 11 instrumental tracks. It was selected as one of that year's best albums by readers of the leading Swedish jazz magazine OJ. A third album is ready to be released 2006. It features 13 original vocal songs. The songs are written by Anders Johansson, Hendrik Bergstén and Mikko Spångberg. Today, the band includes Anders Johansson, Hendrik Bergstén, Mikko Spångberg, and Arne Tengstrand. Lately, it has also included musicians such as Jonas Wall, saxophone, and Jouni Happala, percussion. A few quotes about Nuthouse: "Festive, funky and irresistible party groove that made the whole of Fasching dance." (Jazz Club Fasching Stockholm) "Nuthouse combines several different styles and creates a refreshing mix that doesn't sound like anything else." (Aftonbladet) "Basic Design has not lived up to its title. Instead it has become something more - an accomplished, excellent and delightful complicated design." (The Cipher literary magazine, Hartford, CT, USA)
